Home Hardening Mesh Program

Panoramic Hills Mitigation Area • Grizzly Peak Mitigation Area

The Home Hardening Mesh Program offers residents free metal mesh and gutter guards. Metal mesh and gutter guards can prevent embers from igniting homes, contributing to home hardening best practices. Providing home hardening assistance to residents contributes to overall wildfire resiliency in the Berkeley Hills.

We do not provide on-site installations or property assessments for mesh requirements. Please visit Wildfire Defense Mesh website if you have any questions about installation options, vent types, and mesh measuring.

Please note: Due to a high volume of inquiries and requests, responses to emails and calls may be delayed. For the fastest answers to your questions, we encourage you to visit the Wildfire Defense Mesh website as your first resource. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

The Mesh sizes we provide are as follows:

  • Gable Vent/Off-Ridge Vent Mesh Size: 24" x 19"

  • Foundation Vent Mesh Size: 7.5" x 16"

  • Soffit Vent Screens Size: 22" x 3.5"

  • Gutter Guards Size: 5" x 4'

  • Deck Screening Size: 24”, 38”, 49”

  • Where do you install each of the mesh sizes you provide?

    • Vent mesh (24” W x 19" L): Mesh can be installed to cover the vents around your home and prevent embers from entering the structure.

    • Gutter guards (5" W x 4' L): Guards are placed on top of your home’s gutters to prevent leaf litter and other debris from accumulating.

    • Deck screening: (49" W x 50' L): Screens can be installed to enclose openings under your deck and prevent embers from igniting materials under the deck. These screens are the maximum size metal mesh
